MyTunesRSS 3.8.0-RC-1
MyTunesRSS allows you to access the music and videos from your iTunes library or any simple watch folder over a local network or even the internet. You can access your music from all over the world using a simple web browser. The user interface lets you search for titles or browse your whole library by album, artist or genre. You can access your iTunes playlists or create new ones directly in MyTunesRSS.

Download single tracks or play them right inside your browser. Either using a browser plugin for the file type or directly in the Flash player. Or do you want to download a complete album, all tracks from one artist or the contents of a playlist to your local computer? No problem with MyTunesRSS. You can also download an M3U or XSPF playlist and play them in Windows Media Player, iTunes, VLC, WinAmp or any other player capable of playing such playlists. Get a playlist as an RSS feed on your computer and stay up-to-date to the contents all the time. Enjoy cover images from the tracks if available in the files and supported by the RSS reader. Listen to your music via RSS feeds on many devices like the Nintendo Wii or the Playstation Portable with the latest firmware version.

Either use the simple internal database or connect MyTunesRSS with a MySQL or Postgres database for better stability and performance, especially with large music collections.

Create themes and language packs for the web interface. Just use your own style. Use transcoding to deliver your MP3 content in lower bitrates to save bandwidth or even transcode your AAC files to MP3 on-the-fly to play them in the Flash player or any other application only capable of playing MP3 files.

If theme creation is not enough or not flexible enough for you, just use the remote API - either XML-RPC or JSON-RPC - and create a whole new (web) interface backed by the MyTunesRSS server.

Enjoy integration into the Last.FM social music network. Just use any player that does not support this community - like the integrated Flash player for example - and let MyTunesRSS handle the scrobbling.

Configure MyTunesRSS to your preferences. Create user accounts to protect your music from unauthorized access. But do not worry, the default configuration is sufficient in most cases and all you need is a single click to start the MyTunesRSS server.

Since MyTunesRSS is pure Java, you can run it on any platform supporting Java 1.5.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 3.8.0-RC-1:
  • Configurable links to external sites for albums, artists and tracks, e.g. to link to Amazon.
  • Playlist editing with much improved usability.
  • Search can find exact matches like before or similar matches as well. Similar matches are standard. Improved performance when searching.
  • Much more comfortable user management.
  • Support for HTML in welcome message.
  • System tray support for Mac OS X added (known issues on Linux).
  • Windows bundle with installer (optionally can install Java runtime as well).
  • File cache for downloaded ZIP archives (support for download managers).
  • New function in web interface to set tags for tracks. You can also set tags for all tracks of an album, a playlist, etc.
  • All functions (rss feed, flash player, download, etc.) are available through a popup menu in the web interface now. So you can enable the ones you usually use in the settings like before and access the other ones through the menu if needed. So you can save display space by disabling some functions but also use them if needed.
  • When accessing the server with the iPhone the user is asked whether he wants to use the default interface or the iPhone optimized interface which does not have all functions of the default interface. The special iPhone service through http://iphone.mytunesrss.com will be disabled soon.
  • Optionally configure forced transcoders for a user, i.e. force transcoder usage for a user.
  • Simpler transcoder configuration for all media types (e.g. transcode AVI video to MP4 or FLV to play it in Flash player).
  • LDAP authentication support.
  • You can now configure multiple playlists if you want to restrict a user to a number of tracks.
  • Opensearch link in portal page. You can add the MyTunesRSS search to your Firefox (other browsers have not been tested yet) search plugins.
  • Complete new web interface design (not completely done, please report all issues).
  • Bugfixes.
